Mission Statement

Newbern City Library strives to provide quality materials and services to help our community obtain the information needed to meet their personal, educational and professional needs. Emphasis is placed on providing a diverse collection of reading, listening and viewing materials, and on promoting a love of lifelong learning.

About the Newbern City Library

Established on November 11, 1969, the Newbern City Library has served the community of Newbern, Tennessee, for more than five decades. Our mission is to provide access to knowledge, resources, and programs that support education, enrichment, and lifelong learning for all residents.

Located at 220 East Main Street, the library offers a welcoming space for readers, students, and families. We provide both in-person and digital resources, including a wide selection of books, audiobooks, and e-books, as well as access to the Tennessee Electronic Library, research databases, and the READS/Libby platform for digital lending. Public computers, Wi-Fi, printing, and mobile hotspot checkouts are available to ensure equitable access to technology.

The library serves patrons of all ages through a variety of programs. Children and families enjoy weekly story times, homeschool and STEAM activities, and the annual Summer Reading Program, which fosters literacy and a love of reading from an early age. Teens and adults benefit from book discussions, educational workshops, and year-round opportunities for personal growth and community connection.

Through these resources and services, the Newbern City Library remains committed to being more than a place to borrow books—it is a hub for learning, discovery, and community engagement.
